WHEREAS, Glen Lake, in Goffstown, on August 12th, 2018, will be the site of first ever open water, professionally-timed swim event in Goffstown, New Hampshire; and
WHEREAS, The event is sanctioned by the U.S. Masters Swimming, a national membership-operated nonprofit with 65,000 swimmers as members.; and
WHEREAS, The event is a fitting activity for commemorating the centennial anniversary of the construction of Gregg’s Falls Dam, and
WHEREAS, Historical records and native American legends indicate the high likelihood that a pre-historic-like aquatic creature has inhibited Glen Lake since soon after the dam’s construction; and
WHEREAS, From even those early days, the aquatic creature has, with great fondness, been called Glennie; and
WHEREAS, Glennie, despite its size and awesome abilities, has never been known to be a threat to residents who swim in Glen Lake; and
WHEREAS, The safety of the open water swim participants will be enhanced by Glennie’s apparent desire to keep at bay other harmful creatures in the lake;
NOW, THEREFORE, We the Board of Selectmen of the Town of Goffstown, County of Hillsborough, State of New Hampshire, by virtue of the authority vested in us, do hereby proclaim August 12, 2018 be designated as:
GLENNIE DAY
throughout the Town of Goffstown, New Hampshire, and urge all of the citizenry of the Town of Goffstown to come watch the swim event with the knowledge that Glennie will be in the depths of Glen Lake doing its part to make the day successful and memorable.
